Ron learned to play fingerstyle guitar when he was about 12 years old from a gentleman named Derrell Blake in Dugger, Indiana. After raising a family he bought a new guitar and started playing more frequently. Being middle-aged, he never thought he would attempt to write his own music. Most of his writing comes from life experiences, speaking his feelings through the sounds of the guitar. He released his first CD "The Pursuit" in Fall 2007, which was a collection of tunes he played in a few coffee houses around Kansas City, Missouri. His CD won the KCCM "Album of The Year Award" in 2008, and nominated two times as Instrumentalist of the Year. Some of the songs on The Pursuit CD have well over 2,000 downloads or paid listens from all over the globe. Ron won a State Fingerpicking Championship in Kansas. Ron said he could have won first place if the other guy knew how to make a mistake. "My favorite place to play is where people will hear, and feel or experience my songs", Ron says. "Some like my music in the background, and that is fine, however, when someone tells me they heard what I was expressing through the song, then it's all worth my time and efforts!"
Ron is currently working on three CD's: "Acoustic Dreams" and "Thumbing My Way Back Home", and "Ella's Playlist". They all will be released in 2012. These CD's are Instrumental Acoustic Fingerstyle music with most of the songs being his own original compositions. "Ella's Playlist" is an easy listening Children's CD given to his Granddaughter for Christmas and features many familiar songs for both old and young.
Ron has also received a Guitar Endorsement with Timberline Guitars and is looking forward to working with them in 2012. Timberline's President, Rob Smith, says that "Ron's playing is all about what an Acoustic Guitar should sound like". Ron's music will be featured in a variety of ways from this endorsement throughout the year. In addition to his solo guitar work, Ron accompanies an Award Winning Singer Songwriter, Karla Bauer, occassionly touring, or playing shows across Missouri and Kansas. Karla has released two CD's and together they have teamed up with some unplugged versions of her original songs along with Ron's finger-style.
